Jurassic World 3 evolves into Jurassic World: Dominion, begins filming
The title for the third Jurassic World installment has finally been announced: Jurassic World: Dominion. The sequel has also officially begun filming.
If Chris Pratt is to be believed, the third Jurassic World installment will be one of the best Jurassic Park films yet — and it will tie up the storylines that have been building since the first trilogy, though exactly how it will manage that remains to be seen. The original trio of doctors are back for this sequel though, along with Pratt and co-star Bryce Dallas Howard, and as of yesterday, filming is officially underway.
Director Colin Trevorrow announced the start of production on Twitter, posting an image from the set with the caption “Day One #JurassicWorld.”
In addition to the news that the film is officially one step closer to being made, the title was also finally revealed. Instead of referring to the third installment as Jurassic World 3, fans can now confidently call it by the name Jurassic World: Dominion.
Could the emphasis on the word “dominion” mean the dinosaurs that escaped confinement in the previous film now have control over things? It certainly seems that way, so the title doesn’t bode all that well for the franchise’s characters, who, for all their experience with these prehistoric creatures, don’t stand a chance against them unleashed. On the other hand, “dominion” could also refer to human authority — suggesting the doctors and Jurassic World staff find a way to bring the dinosaurs back in check.
Fans won’t know how things pan out until the film hits theaters in June 2021, but with Trevorrow writing the script with Emily Carmichael and executive producing with Steven Spielberg, things look promising. Pratt certainly seems impressed, and comparing this conclusion to Marvel’s Avengers: Endgame is certainly high praise. Let’s hope it’s warranted.
