Modern Princess: Cinderella’s Castle at Walt Disney World gets a makeover
Pixie Dust at Walt Disney World is casting a golden glow over Cinderella’s Castle. Are the new regal enhancements convey a new modern princess?
Even more changes are coming to Walt Disney World. While Epcot continues its dramatic renovations, Magic Kingdom is getting a royal upgrade as well. In order of the 70th anniversary of Cinderella, the iconic Cinderella’s Castle is getting a makeover. But is this bold, new look a smart choice for the Disney icon?
According to Disney, the remodel of the iconic Magic Kingdom castle will begin soon and continue throughout the summer. Looking at the artist rendering, the color scheme is quite different than the current castle’s appearance.
While Disney wanted to convey “bold, shimmering, and regal enhancements,” the color scheme looks more modern than classic fairy tale. Is Disney looking to incorporate a more modern princess approach?
Gold is abundant in the color scheme. While that gold will shimmer and sparkle in the Florida sun, it seems to be a trendy take. Similar to the popularity of rose gold Minnie ears, the gold accents have a feminine touch. It isn’t just about being flashy, it is about being regal.
Over the past couple of years, that touch of gold isn’t considered powerful. Instead of delicate and frilly, the golden hues convey a sense of strength. Princesses are as strong as they are pretty.
In a way, it conveys a modern princess from that classic fairy tale. Granted, Cinderella’s dress is light blue, but she has that modern princess quality that has stood the test of time. Even if that glass slipper had never reappeared, there would have been a way for her to claim her destiny.
While little girls might be thrilled to dress like their favorite princess, that Cinderella ideal of finding that Prince Charming has woven its way through modern culture. Whether the princesses are characters or real life, there is something about that fairy tale that draws people in.
Today, girls and women look to do their Disney Princess Makeovers. There are even Disney Princess inspired wedding gowns. Even though these ideas might be classics, the imagery continues to evolve.
Looking at the Magic Kingdom Cinderella’s Castle redesign, there are elements that are similar to other Disney Parks interpretation. The bolder color choices seem to clear. Could these choices have been made to enhance those iconic Disney photos that everyone has in front of the castle?
The bold gold, brighter blues and slight pink hue could make those photos more photogenic. Influencers will have to pick their new best outfit to complement that new color scheme.
Even though these enhancements will look pretty from a distance, Disney does need to address the look of Cinderella’s Castle on a closer level. While those nighttime shows are spectacular, the lighting sheets on the castle need to go away. With so many projection options, it would be nice for Disney to find a way to avoid those additions on the castle. Maybe these enhancements will address that item.
While the Disney artist rendering is just a picture, everyone will have to wait to see what the Cinderella’s Castle enhancements will look like in the Magic Kingdom. Whether the new look is the picture perfect backdrop to your magical memory photo or a view that inspires you to dream big, everyone will have a reason to make another visit to Walt Disney World.
