Project Runway is looking to showcase big, bold looks this week. Can Ashley Longshore and her pop art inspire the designers to step out of their boxes?
When fashion and art collide, the result can be visually stunning. Project Runway is pushing the designers’ creativity on this week’s episode. Will Ashley Longshore give the designers permission to be bolder in their next inspired look?
According to Bravo, this week’s Project Runway episode, “Project Runway X Ashley Longshore,” features the following:
"“Collaborations between fashion designers and artists are all the rage. In this challenge, the designers get a chance to enter into one with the fashion industry’s latest art darling, Ashley Longshore. Ashley’s outrageous pop art, turned into one of a kind prints, gives the runway some of the boldest looks of the season.”"
While some looks on this Project Runway season have been innovative, several have become repetitive. Although having a particular style can set a designer apart, the judges want to see the designers pushing themselves. The same look, week after week, can backfire.
Thinking about the direction of this challenge, the designers might either flourish or flounder. Bold prints and colors require a deft hand. No one wants a look to be comical or derivative. Just because pop art is striking doesn’t mean that an inspired design will have the same effect.
Looking at the remaining designers, this week’s runway could see some shake-ups. Although preview clips show Dayong suffering another illness, the designers might not be as willing to sacrifice their place in the competition for another.
As for the designs, themselves, it’s hard to say which designer could really shine. While Brittany seems to love Ashley Longshore, adoration doesn’t necessary equate success. Could someone like Nancy find her moment to shine? Maybe a big shocking result could happen; after all, there hasn’t been a big twist yet this season.
