Project Runway Season 18 episode 5 live stream: Watch online

Project Runway is having an 80s flashback on this week’s episode. With Cyndi Lauper joining the judging panel, these fashions better be some fun.

In fashion and Project Runway, fashion inspiration often comes from the past. In this week’s episode, Cyndi Lauper and the 80s serve as design inspiration. While designers just want to have fun, nothing is ever quite that simple on Project Runway.

According to Bravo, this week’s Project Runway episode, “She’s Sew Unusual” synopsis states:

"The iconic Cyndi Lauper is both inspiration and guest judge for this totally tubular team challenge. Split into two teams, the designers must create cohesive mini-collections. They need to collaborate to pay homage to Cyndi’s ’80s fashion trailblazing that brought underground punk into the pop culture while still giving the looks a totally awesome modern take.Sounds pretty straight forward until Christian throws out a mid-challenge twist that changes everything."

While last week’s episode saw quite a bit of shade, a team challenge could definitely see the claws some out. From sparring personalities to potential sabotage, a team challenge can cause huge shake-ups on the runway.

The design inspiration for this week’s challenge seems to be on trend. While some designers and/or fashions are pulling more from the 90s, the mixed textiles, bright colors and creative combinations are definitely making a statement. As long as the big shoulder pads never make a comeback, everyone should be ok.

Of course, nothing is quite that simple on Project Runway. The mid-challenge twist could definitely give the designers an ultimate panic attack. No one likes a twist. Given that the twist happens in a team challenge, it is even worse.

So far, the majority of the designers are either runway favorites or overlooked. Now that the consistent bottom looks have been eliminated, it could be time for some designers to finally get some runway feedback. Hopefully, it is positive feedback. No one wants their first critique to be their last.
