The New Mutants trailer has (finally) arrived!
The trailer for Marvel’s The New Mutants is finally here, and it promises a much darker take on the X-Men.
Marvel fans anticipating The New Mutants have probably spent the past year or so wondering whether they’d ever see the movie hit theaters at all. With the film’s release date delayed several times since its production began back in 2016, it was beginning to look like the newest installment in the X-Men universe would never see the light of day. But earlier today, 20th Century Fox released the first official trailer for the film — and it doesn’t look half bad considering all the changes its undergone to get to this point.
The first look at the film shows our teenage cast — all of whom have terrifying powers — coming to the realization that they’re being kept in a hospital not for their own protection, but for reasons far more sinister than that.

Despite both Marvel and 20th Century Fox being owned by Disney now, it seems that The New Mutants will stick to the original vision for the story — something director Josh Boone was adamant would be the case even before the new footage was released. And the trailer confirms that movie will give viewers a much darker take on the X-Men narrative, with storylines and scenes that straddle the line between the superhero and horror genres.
Even with its much darker tone, though, it appears the film will maintain some of what fans have come to love about X-Men at its core. It seems like teenage mutants will have to work together to escape the facility they’re being kept in, so we’re likely in for the usual bonds and action sequences we get from X-Men films — just with a lot more eerie backstories and moments surrounding them.
