This Sunday marks the 77th annual Golden Globes, and Ricky Gervais is back to host whether we like it or not. (Most of us are in the not category, right? I mean, The Office is great, but Gervais has proven to be a bit toxic in recent years. Anyone else wondering why we can’t just have Tina and Amy again? Anyway…)
The Golden Globes kick off awards season for both film and television and are traditionally a bit more surprising than the Oscars and Emmys, giving the coveted statues to underdogs and dark horses each year.
Notably this year, the Globes seem to be solidifying Netflix as a solid contender in the Oscars race with three of the five Best Motion Picture – Drama nominees streaming on Netflix, including frontrunner Marriage Story.
The Golden Globes also offer a more riotous spectacle as stars dine and drink during the affair, allowing for plenty of hijinks during the long evening. (Does anyone remember shoeless Emma Thompson? Iconic!)
