Whether you’re trying to complete your Goodreads challenge or just squeezing a few more books in before 2020 arrives, December has some great SFF options.

It’s hard to believe 2019 is almost over already, and the end of the year will likely have readers attempting to squeeze in a few more books before they start planning their TBR piles for 2020. And whether you’re attempting to meet a Goodreads goal before the year is through or merely looking to fit a few more stories in, there are book releases hitting shelves in December to help.

In particular, plenty of science-fiction and fantasy releases seem to have been saved for this last month of the year — and many of them are, fittingly, concluding popular series, or continuing them at the very least.

Perhaps most notably, the sequel to the highly acclaimed Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi is finally arriving this December. But in addition to this long-awaited second novel, YA readers can also look forward to new stories from Alex R. Kahler, Lyra Selene, and Rebecca Hanover, all of whom are releasing the next installments in their own fantasy series.

Science-fiction seems to be a hot genre this month as well. Jeff VanderMeer, best known for his Southern Reach trilogy, is also coming out with a new sci-fi novel set in the same world as Borne. We’ve also got new books from Charles Soule, Mark Lawrence, and Richard Baker coming our way.

There are so many books to look forward to this month, especially for fans of SFF, that it should be easy fitting in a few more reads before the year comes to a close. Let’s get into them…
