It’s official: Lizzie McGuire and Gordo can finally have their happily ever after (again)
By Meg Dowell
The latest addition to the Lizzie McGuire revival cast is the old friend we all dreamed would return.
It should have come as no surprise that at least some of the original cast would return for Disney+’s untitled Lizzie McGuire revival. That doesn’t mean the latest casting news wasn’t shocking — in the best way possible, of course.
When Disney+ first tweeted out a video of Hilary Duff having a “special announcement,” most of us assumed we were already getting a premiere date. That would have been fine — and hey Disney, if you still want to drop that info sooner rather than later for the sake of our collective sanity, that’d be great.
We were oh so delightfully wrong, however. Because as soon as Duff started listing off the original cast members she was so excited to be able to work with again, it happend.
Or should we say Gordo happened. Yes, THAT Gordo!
If you’ve lost touch with Adam Lamberg since his last appearance as Lizzie’s BFF and long-time love interest, it’s not because you weren’t paying attention. He’s pretty much been out of the acting game for the past 15 years, with his most recent IMDb credit dated way back to 2008.
It took a streaming service and probably plenty of convincing, but it worked, and isn’t that all that really matters?
Lamberg didn’t even have to introduce himself in the video. We all know who he is. The second we heard his voice, we all screamed in unison in front of our own respective devices.
He’s back! He’s really back!
Does this mean the Lizzie/Gordo reomance can finally continue — and get a proper ending? Can we finally give them a modern ship name? (Lizzo would have been perfect, but there’s only one human on this planet worthy of that name. Keep trying.)
Technically our hearts already melted after each viewing of The Lizzie McGuire Movie (don’t lie, there were many viewings) when it was implied Lizzie and Gordo would basically be together forever. Because it’s Disney, and high school romances so often do.
But now there’s almost no doubt we’re getting a Luke and Lorelai- level finale here. We’ve seen Lizzie in a wedding dress once before (that was the episode they could have totally gotten together sooner!), but fingers crossed this time will be for real. And forever.
Now that another original cast member has announced their return, we’re now waiting for surprise announcements from some of Lizzie’s old classmates and friends. Will Miranda be back after disappearing at the end of the final season and not showing up in the movie at all? It’s not likely. But we also never thought this show would come back, and look what happened.
We still don’t know exactly how long we’ll have to wait for a release date and the moment we finally see our favorite characters all grown up. But announcements like this sure don’t make the wait any easier, do they?
