Poldark season 5 episode 6: Watch online

Episode six of the final season of Poldark is upon us and the preview’s ominous violin music is not dying down. Here’s how you can watch online.

Things certainly don’t look hopeful for our tolerated Colonel Ned Despard on Poldark – as we’ve discussed extensively here – with Ross’ defense of him in court reducing him to tears and a possible illicit escape from prison. As opposed to his previous escape, which was, in fact, 100 per cent legal: a new high for Ross.

Anyway, it’s not at all rosy for Despard and frankly things seem to have been set up against him from the beginning, both by writer Debbie Horsfield and indeed, history itself. He’s simply not learned from his mistakes (and he’s made quite a few) and now, however honourable he may be, he’s back in dire straits.

Still, against all odds, we must hope for a typical Poldark-style rescue – after all, there’s been stickier situations than this before in this swashbuckling show.

Elsewhere in the preview, we can see poor Cecily Hanson being manhandled by her father, incidentally the orchestrator of Ned’s downfall himself. After Geoffrey Charles’ naivety last week, asking for Cecily’s hand in marriage (oh boy), Ralph is basically pushing her down the aisle towards George with more speed than Seamus galloping across clifftops.

The preview shows she certainly makes it to the altar, but wide-eyed and beaten Geoffrey Charles is also in attendance. Either he’s a glutton for punishment or we could be getting Cornwall’s  very own “Elaine!” moment. Let’s pray for the latter.

Finally, back to the mining business, Demelza and Zacky are dealing with some stolen ore. “It must be someone with the knowledge of the mine!” says Demelza, both wisely and obviously. And since the only named miner other than Zacky this season has been Rosina’s dad Jacka, Troublesome Tess’ chosen sidekick for some reason, we can safely say the list of suspects is quite short.

To be honest, we’re mostly here for Cecily and Geoffrey Charles at this point. Let love win!
