18. Michael Myers

In his very first appearance in Halloween, Michael Myers made an indelible impression on us all. In fact, we would have to say that he was so good at being a horror villain that he was able to strike fear into many a hard heart. Here was a killer with a mask on that didn’t seem to have a reason for what he was doing. And yet, we know the truth about this silent killer (he blames his family for a lot of things).

With a whole host of family issues, Myers was more than just the perfect horror villain, he was an epic movie villain. Not only did he turn a standard Halloween mask into something terrifying, but even his clothing is nondescript enough to make us jump at everyday people.

Although his original appearance made it clear that even without a lot of motivations or back story someone could be an excellent villain, over the years we have learned even more about what makes Michael Myers tick. And whether we needed to learn more or not, it has certainly helped to cement his place as one of movies’ great villains.

Whether he is coming back from the dead (we could have sworn he has been killed multiple times) or lurking in the shadows, Michael Myers is the kind of bad guy that makes you scared of the dark and even our favorite holiday of all time – Halloween.
