15. Severus Snape vs. Sirius Black & Remus Lupin

Book or movie? This was a rivalry in both the books and the movies.

Brief description of the rivalry: When we found out about Severus Snapes’ backstory, we learned that he had been bullied by a certain group of Gryffindor students. Those students were led by James Potter, but also included Sirius Black and Remus Lupin.

While James would be killed by Harry Potter, Sirius and Lupin would go on to live. Of course, one of those would be in prison and the other would be left in the darkness of his own grief. That didn’t stop the rivalry from remaining.

Did it remain a rivalry? In a way, this was a rivalry that reduced over time. Severus did put together a potion to help control Lupin’s werewolf side while he was at the school. He also worked with Sirius Black in the Order of the Phoenix, although neither trusted each other.

By the very end, the rivalry wasn’t mentioned all that much. It didn’t matter much when Snape started working behind enemy lines, Sirius was killed, and Lupin focused on fighting for the side of good.

Why it’s one of the greatest: This rivalry is one that won’t be forgotten. There were plenty of words thrown about, but when it all came down to it, the three characters were able to put their differences aside. They could put their rivalry on the backburner and focus on the greater good.

The three, in their own weird way, were role models for all the other rivalries out there. They were certainly role models for a later rivalry on this list.
