1. Harry Potter vs. Voldemort

Book or movie? The best rivalry in the Harry Potter series was in both he books and the movies.

Brief description of the rivalry: I’m not sure this rivalry needs any introduction. Voldemort learned that one boy would be the death of him—well, one would die so the other could live. There were two, and Voldemort chose Harry Potter. In the end, Lily’s love would save Harry, creating the rivalry.

Did it remain a rivalry? There was never going to be a chance that this rivalry would come to an end. It was written that only one could live, and Voldemort was going to make sure it was him.

For Harry, he had no choice. It was either fight against Voldemort or die—and allow all his friends and the goodness in the world to die at the same time.

Why it’s one of the greatest: This was a rivalry that took place from the very beginning. Even when Voldemort wasn’t actually there, he was a constant presence in the fear everyone felt. Harry Potter knew what his destiny would be.

It was also a rivalry that would take us on a journey. We’d get to see Harry learn more about his history, magic, and his abilities. If it wasn’t for this rivalry, there wouldn’t have been a book or movie series at all. It needed to be the number one choice, right?
