5. Neville Longbottom vs. Bellatrix Lestrange

Book or movie? This was a rivalry focused on more in the books, but it was brought up in the movies.

Brief description of the rivalry: There was certainly no surprise to why there was such a rivalry between the two characters once you learned the full Longbottom backstory. We soon found out that Bellatrix was responsible for Neville living with his grandmother. She didn’t kill his parents, but she tortured them until they went crazy.

Did it remain a rivalry? This would remain a rivalry until Bellatrix’s death. However, I don’t think Neville really saw it as a rivalry. He just knew that he needed to get some sort of revenge for his parents. In the end, he wouldn’t be the one to kill Bellatrix, showing who he was on the inside.

Why it’s one of the greatest: This was one of the purest rivalries of all. We got a look at how one boy would react to all the stories he’d heard of Bellatrix. He knew what the woman had done to his parents, and he couldn’t help but feel hatred towards her.

However, he was still good on the inside. Despite everything, he was brave, smart, and kind. This rivalry helped to make him into this strong-willed character but didn’t tarnish the goodness.
