Harry Potter: 15 greatest rivalries in franchise history
6. Sirius Black vs. Bellatrix Lestrange
Book or movie? The rivalry between the two was mostly shown in the books, but there were mentions of it in the movies.
Brief description of the rivalry: Sirius and Bellatrix had plenty of history being family. The books go into more detail of this, of how Bellatrix turned against her cousin due to him being sorted into Gryffindor.
Did it remain a rivalry? This was a rivalry all the way to the end of Sirius’ death. The best part is that Sirius tried to do what was right, stepping away from the rivalry and not purposely attacking a family member.
It would be Bellatrix who would get the fatal blow in on Sirius. “I killed Sirius Black” will stay in your mind, and I’m betting you’re hearing it in Helena Bonham Carter’s voice.
Why it’s one of the greatest: Part of what made this rivalry so great was Bellatrix. This was such a well-developed character. And, okay, I’m biased because she is one of my favorite characters throughout the whole of the Harry Potter series.
However, the rivalry was also important to deliver more information about Sirius. More details of Voldemort and of the Death Eaters were brought to us thanks to this family rivalry.
