7. Harry Potter and Dudley Dursley

Book or movie? This is another one of those rivalries that’s in both the books and the movies.

Brief description of the rivalry: Harry Potter grew up in the home of his aunt and uncle for protection. Sadly, they didn’t like Harry and that meant their son, Dudley, also didn’t like his cousin.

Dudley was a bully to his cousin. The two had completely different interests and opinions.

Did it remain a rivalry? For the most part, this would always be a rivalry. Regardless of whether Dudley changed after he and his parents moved away in the final book/movie, there was no way that the past could be changed. Everything that Dudley had done over the years would have been within Harry Potter’s mind.

Why it’s one of the greatest: This was one of those rivalries that made Harry Potter who he was. While he could have joined Slytherin with his ambitious side, he didn’t want to be evil. He didn’t want to be the bully that he’d grown up around. Sometimes bullies can wear us down, but Harry had one of those personalities that grew from the mistreatment.

And when it came to possibly getting rid of his bully, Harry proved just how much the situation taught him to be good. He couldn’t let one of his family members die at the hand of a Dementor.
