PlayStation announced its August offerings for Plus members. Be prepared to play some futuristic racing and a World War II shooter.

As the summer winds down, PlayStation is ramping up its free offerings for its members. And now that August is here, we want to know: What can we expect?

Below are the two new offerings for PlayStation Plus members for the month of August:

  • Wipeout Omega Collection
  • Sniper Elite 4

Let’s dive in to what these two games are.

Wipeout Omega Collection includes HD remasters of Wipeout 2048, Wipeout HD, and the HD Fury expansion. And what exactly does that all mean? Well, the Wipeout series is all about racing (which makes it really funny that both PlayStation and Xbox are offering racing games this month).

But it’s futuristic racing. It’s zero gravity, sensory-overload kind of racing. It’s an interesting hodgepodge of choices for what games are in this package, as it’s not any of the “big hitting” Wipeout games and 2048 was a PS Vita exclusive.

Nevertheless, if you want some intense racing and constantly evolving AI competitions, Wipeout Omega Collection is for you.

Sniper Elite 4 is a FPS set during World War II. So, if you have a hankering for virtually killing some Nazis this month — or stalking them, disembowling them, scaring them, et cetera — you’ll want to download this one.

But it’s not just your standard first-person shooter game. You need to think about the kind of ammo you’re going to use when making a sniper kill. If you choose to play with a higher difficulty level, then you’re going to have to take wind speed into account. Plus it’ll be harder to find ammo.

The only downside to this game is learning the system takes some time. But, as with all games, the mechanics are just part of the learning curve.

Needless to say, both of these offerings for PlayStation Plus members are solid choices by Sony this month. Plus members shouldn’t be disappointed with their options.
