Xbox announced their free games for August for their Live Gold members. They are four solid choices for this month’s offerings, check them out!

If you’re an Xbox Live Gold member, chances are you’re waiting to see what August will hold for your free games. Well, you’re in luck!

Below are the offerings for August, the systems they’re on, and the dates they’re available to download:

  • Gears of War 4  (August 1 to August 31 on Xbox One)
  • Forza Motorsport 6  (August 16 to September 15 on Xbox One)
  • Torchlight (August 1 to August 15 on Xbox One and Xbox 360)
  • Castlevania: Lords of Shadow (August 16 to August 31 on Xbox One and Xbox 360)

Surprisingly, these games beat PlayStation’s announcement for their August offerings. And they’re all pretty good options, too.

Gears of War 4 is a great third-person shooter to get you back into the swing of things in the series. That’s especially good with Gears 5 set to release on September 10th. Gears 4 released in October 2016 and was a solid continuation in the series, despite not being produced by Epic.

If you want your racing needs sated, look no further than Forza Motorsport 6. The game is incredibly realistic in how the cars handle and how the weather elements affect the track. This ain’t no Mario Golf 64 and its terrible wind gauge.

I may also be partial to the game because the preview was unveiled at the North American International Auto Show in 2015, which is right in my backyard. Plus any sim game that keeps things as realistic as possible is a plus.

If you aren’t looking for anything as serious as those first two options, then your best bet is probably Torchlight. A solid RPG from the creators of Diablo, make your way through this fantasy world with its beautiful art and addictive combat. Just don’t put too much stock in the story line.

Lastly, any Castlevania is good Castlevania. And it’s the second month in a row that Xbox has offered an installment in this series. Even though Lords of Shadow may not feel like it fully belongs, playing through this iteration won’t leave you hanging. You may just want to plug in God of War when you’re done.
