Kristen Bell had the sweetest thing to say about Eleanor and Chidi’s relationship

At San Diego Comic-Con, Culturess got the chance to hear from Kristen Bell and William Jackson Harper about Eleanor and Chidi’s relationship. What Bell had to say was incredibly sweet.
Name a sweeter couple on television right now than Eleanor and Chidi on The Good Place. I’ll wait. Sure, the relationship has seen more ups and downs than flying, gigantic shrimp in the sky, but nonetheless, their relationship prevailed every time.
The Good Place actors Kristen Bell and William Jackson Harper felt the same way about their characters, and Culturess got the chance to sit down with the two during a roundtable press interview at San Diego Comic-Con.
Bell had her own ideas about why the relationship lasted the trials of time no matter what simulation they were going through — and her answer is so sweet, you may want to jot it down and save it for your own poetic waxings to your loved ones:
"What I love about Chidi and Eleanor is that they are not perfect matches. They are not the puzzle piece that was waiting for one another; they are two polar opposites who challenge each other and force one another to grow, and they balance each other. And for me, what I took was maybe that’s a great thing for the human soul, maybe growing together is what makes everyone their healthiest. And maybe what love is, is a commitment to grow with one another. Yes, it’s a choice and Simone is so much more like Chidi — she’s also just so spectacular and wonderful. It was hard not to want Chidi to go have Simone to have that. But the very important thing is they never let you forget about the history of growth with Eleanor, and I think there’s something to be valued in your history of growth with someone."
Simone, if you recall from season three, was one of Chidi’s flings whom he met on Earth after his life was saved. It brought about some complications for Eleanor, who could still feel that deep down, she and Chidi had a connection. To make things even worse, once the gang was given a final chance at proving themselves, Simone was brought into the current “Good Place” simulation — definitely to shake things up between Eleanor and Chidi.
As Jameela Jamil mentioned, Chidi made the ultimate sacrifice to have his memory wiped at the end of the season, but we won’t be seeing the last of those two’s relationship at all.
What we may see in the final season, season four, is that Eleanor and Chidi’s love will prevail because (in an odd way), they were definitely made for one another. Bell broke it down by saying:
"Life is not going, “You’re great; we’ve been through a lot; let me see who’s over your shoulder.” The definition of love that we’re all searching for is looking at the person in front of you recognizing their flaws, recognizing your own and saying “Let’s get through it together,” not searching for a different perfect person. So for me, it was like that concept all rolled into one. So I liked that they challenged us in wanting to have Chidi go for Simone. But I also like that he came back and said, “No, I am going to grow with you, Eleanor.”"
No matter what happens this season, at least it seems like Bell is optimistic that Eleanor and Chidi will make it through together. We’re hoping that in the end, they both earn their reward of spending eternity in the Good Place because, boy, did they earn it.
The final season of The Good Place will air this fall on NBC.
