Olivia Munn got a new sword at SDCC, and we want to see her on Themiscyra
We saw Olivia Munn leave San Diego Comic-Con with a shiny new God Killer sword. Can you really blame us for wanting to see her in a Wonder Woman movie?
Everyone is still reveling in that post-SDCC glow. You know, the one where you’re still gleaming with sweat from your overly ambiguous cosplay and the lengthy lines. Or maybe you’re working through a vicarious post-SDCC glow while you watch all your friends and all the celebrities you follow show off their statues and comics.
If there’s one celebrity we can turn to for all the nerdy SDCC sentiments that we missed out on this year, it’s Olivia Munn, who sported a God Killer sword while leaving the convention center. Every woman needs a good sword — prop, replica, or otherwise. And every Comic-Con attendee needs a God Killer.
Check out Olivia Munn’s photo of her carrying God Killer out of the convention:
Beyond helping us work through some regularly slated emotions of missing out on another San Diego Comic-Con, we’re only thinking about one thing after Munn’s latest photo: Why the heck hasn’t she been cast in a Wonder Woman movie yet?
To be fair, maybe Diana Prince might have gotten the wrong idea after the punchline in Munn’s book title. It’s an easy mistake to make. Nonetheless, Munn’s nerdy know-how and acting prowess would make her a perfect addition to the Wonder Woman franchise.
Our fancasts are a little ahead of schedule because Wonder Woman should get a fifthogy. Should we call a series of five movies something bland like a film franchise? Or is it just called an anthology? We give up. Point is we want to see five times the wonder. We’ll leave the official title to the expert, Patty Jenkins. However, you can’t blame us for amping up our fancasting propaganda after Munn’s latest picture.
So, Warner Bros., if you’re reading this, give Wonder Woman five more films. We have some suggestions for Wonder Woman-themed characters we think Olivia Munn would be great at portraying.
1. Donna Troy
Sure, there’s a chance that the growing Titans-verse or the entire DC Universe could cross over into the main films. However, we can totally see Olivia Munn as Wonder Girl. Seeing Gal Gadot and Olivia Munn (as Diana and Donna, respectively) fling the God Killer around during fight sequences would be a cinematic moment of the decade, easily.
Someone get Munn the Lasso of Persuasion, ASAP!
2. Queen Clea
Atlanteans typically align more with the Aquaman side of the DCU; however, Queen Clea has a grudge with Wonder Woman. With the possibility of Cheetah’s eventual affiliation with Villainy Inc. (an aptly named villainous team), Munn’s hypothetical version of Queen Clea could help build the roster even more.
Bringing Atlanteans into Diana’s onscreen lore will obviously just make the DCU become more cohesive. The portions of fandom that detest any casting choice that isn’t white, straight, or male might also detest part of Queen Clea’s backstory — she’s known for turning the men in her world into objectified sources of entertainment. However, we’d like to think Munn would serve justice to any version of this powerful villain, including this subversive subplot.
3. Silver Swan
We’d obviously love to see Munn portray a role alongside Diana on Themyscira — as a reoccurring Amazon, one of Diana’s siblings, or as Diana’s lovers. (Steve… er, Steve’s potential evil lookalike can’t live forever, after all.) However, you can’t deny that Munn knows how to play a character who thrives in the moral grey area but has a streak as a hero.
For example, she played Psylocke in X-Men: Apocalypse, which underutilized Betsy entirely (and we’re still bitter about it). Since betrayal and trust issues are a running comic trope, Silver Swan would be the perfect addition to Diana’s notorious horde of friends-turned-frenemies.
Otherwise, we could see Munn play an honorary Amazon, such as Supergirl. After all, we’re ready for the DCU to continue to expand (preferably with Olivia Munn in it). So, we might as well take our shot with our favorite fancasts, right?
