The 100: Will there be repercussions for floating the remaining Nightblood?
Kane and Raven had the best intentions when destroying Skaikru’s remaining stores of Nightblood. But will their decision have negative consequences for their people in the long run?
The sixth season of The 100 has been all about the survivors from Earth regaining their humanity. But if there’s anything this show has taught us, it’s that redemption usually comes at a cost. As Abby and Kane often remind us, there’s a very fine line between keeping your people alive and making sure they deserve to survive.
And during this week’s episode, Marcus Kane ensures that his people deserve their survival by making certain that they play no part in the Primes’ body-snatching schemes. With the help of Raven and Indra, he floats his immortal host body — along with all of the remaining vials of Nightblood that Abby promised to bring to Sanctum.
Morally, there’s little doubt that Kane and the others made the right choice. By not allowing the Primes to get their hands on the remaining Nightblood, they guaranteed an end to the murder the Primes have been committing for the sake of immortality. With the number of Nightblood hosts waning and no Nightblood to transfuse into new hosts, their days are numbered.
As far as Skaikru is concerned, however, Kane’s choice might have some negative repercussions. To start, the people of Sanctum aren’t likely to take this move lightly. Unbeknownst to Kane and the others, the Primes have already declared war on Skaikru for Madi’s and Bellamy’s actions during “The Old Man and the Anomaly.” And even if it was the right thing to do, Kane just floated his people’s only leverage.
Apart from shifting the looming conflict to be in Sanctum’s favor, Kane also might have decreased both Madi and Clarke’s chances of survival. Clarke’s already been turned into a host for Josephine, but assuming they can bring her back, she might need a blood transfusion. Unfortunately, there aren’t too many people who have the same sort of blood she does.
Meanwhile, Madi’s a prisoner behind Sanctum’s walls. With no incentive to keep the peace — and every reason to take desperate measures to attain more Nightblood — Russell might decide to extract blood from Madi as a plan B. Is anyone starting to have Mount Weather flashbacks?
Whatever happens next, we have a feeling that Kane’s decision will come back to haunt Skaikru later on. Nightblood’s a valuable thing to both the grounders and the Primes, and the fact that fewer and fewer people have it is going to seriously change how both groups function.
Skaikru might have had some say in what happens next with those vials, but without them? Well, things aren’t looking good.
The 100 airs on Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET on The CW.
