The magic has been unraveling on Swamp Thing, and it started with Alec and Abby’s romance, but it could take on an even more somber tone this week.

The magic of Swamp Thing is still blossoming, literally. After last week’s cliffhanger, we’re ready to have our hearts broken vicariously through Alec and Abby’s impending relationship drama. (Even if they aren’t even technically dating.) Whatever the case, we already know this week is going to sting.

Love isn’t just magic and roses. Sure, it can include magic and some kind of floral spore, but it isn’t just magic and flowers. Like love requires happiness and commitment, there’s typically some sadness. Or in Swampy’s case, there’s a lot of sadness.

Alec Holland’s physical appearance might be back thanks to some swamp magic, but Abby and Alec’s reunion probably won’t last. When it does end, that doesn’t mean Abby and Alec will part ways, even if Alec’s obstinacy keeps bridging a gap between him and the love of his life, only to further isolate himself from humanity itself. Bathos will bring the dynamic duo back together, even in Alec’s new swampy form.

Unfortunately, we don’t just have melodrama and regularly-scheduled sadness on this week’s agenda. There are still some real threats in the swamp. Specifically, Woodrue, Avery, and even the Rot is still lurking… somewhere. It is hard to get rid of rot after it’s started festering.

Okay, the Rot’s return probably isn’t the most anticipated event. We’re all still waiting for the rise of the Floronic Man (while we cling to what little hope we have that DC Universe or any network will revive Swamp Thing for at least another couple of seasons).

Though we’re weirdly excited to see Swampy gain some new and more dangerous enemies, we can’t wait to see some whole content of Alec and Abby just being themselves together. They deserve it after all the chaos they’ve been through (and have yet to endure). We wonder what the two scientists will do on their fleeting date.
