We Walked the Sky – Lisa Fiedler

Readers looking to journey back in time this month should check out Lisa Fiedler’s newest release, We Walked the SkyA multigenerational story with a whimsical circus setting, Fiedler’s latest story is perfect for fans of historical fiction who enjoy a vivid, all-encompassing setting.

Alternating between two separate timelines, We Walked the Sky follows seventeen-year-old Victoria in 1965 and her sixteen-year-old granddaugther Callie 50 years later. Both women find themselves wrapped up in the circus, though under very different circumstances. Way back when, Victoria joined the VanDrexel Family Circus in order to escape an unhappy home life and create a better future.

Callie, on the other hand, begins her story on a much happier note. She’s a talented tightrope walker following in the footsteps of her grandmother. But when Callie’s mother decides to accept her dream job in Florida, Callie is forced to pack up her life and embrace a more ordinary one. Thankfully, a box of old notes and memorabilia from her grandmother helps her cope.

We Walked the Sky tells two stories that eventually tie into one another, focusing on the common themes of letting go and starting over — but with a plot and setting that definitely stand out from most other books on the shelf. Fiedler’s summer release comes out on July 2, and it’s likely to evoke the same sort of magical feeling in readers that summertime often does.
