As part of the Forbes 30 Under 30 list, there were a number of women who made the cut for 2018 and 2019. And one of those women was Rebecca Kantar.
If you don’t know her name, I’m not surprised. Kantar is not a model, nor is she a politician or even a woman in the public eye. However, while she may not be considered a celebrity, she is definitely one of those women who is making a difference in the world.
Rebecca Kantar is the founder of Imbellus, a company that looks to transform the education system once again, by focusing on the practical application of knowledge versus the use of testing to determine the problem-solving skills of a student. While she dropped out of Harvard and admits to not loving school, Kantar’s mission in life is to help fix the way people learn and enjoy schooling.
One of the issues that she sees with education is that much of it has been streamlined in a way that focuses almost entirely on standardized testing. And for some students, this not only takes the fun out of learning, it makes it hard to succeed and get ahead.
According to Kantar, “high schools should be free to teach in ways that are relevant, practical, and interesting for their students.” Honestly, I support this message so much that I hope that not only does Imbellus succeed, but that the people in charge start really listening to educators when they speak up about what does and does not work when it comes to teaching our youth.
As far as women looking to change the world, Rebecca Kantar is definitely helping to lead that charge. After all, education is critical to the success of all of us.
