Kaya Thomas

Another one of our empowering women in science is 24-year-old Kaya Thomas. Here is another strong woman who is an app developer, a computer scientist, and a writer.

The app that Thomas created is called “We Read Too” and was designed as an app to bring readers books that were written by writers of color. However, this is not the only thing that makes her an empowering woman, as she is also a mentor for other young women for Black Girls Code. If you are unfamiliar with Black Girls Code, it is a non-profit dedicated to connecting African-American girls with technology and education.

For Kaya Thomas, it was empowering to learn how to write code, and so this is something that she wants to help other young women with. She was inspired by the tools she gained and wanted to use her knowledge to empower other women.

In 2016, she was even named one of the College Women of the Year by Glamour Magazine, which is a unique achievement.

Beyond her work with Black Girls Code and her own app development, Thomas wants to improve people’s lives, and has said that it is because of her own education that she wants to make a difference in the world.

We love learning more about women empowering other women, and Kaya Thomas is definitely someone looking to empower others.
