5 reasons why you should wait to visit Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge
With all the hype and excitement over the unveiling of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland, here are five reasons why you should wait to visit.
Having a major case of Star Wars FOMO because you weren’t at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge over the weekend? With the star-studded opening, Instagram influencers and Disney fans filling your feeds with tempting pictures and glowing recommendations, you could be feeling like totally deprived. But… waiting a while to visit this Disney experience could be a great idea.
Granted everyone wants to be the first person to see, do and participate in the hottest event. In this case, the highly anticipated, super immersive Star Wars land was that event to kick off the summer. While it seemed like everyone, who was anyone, was in attendance, those people might not have made the best choice. Here’s why.
To be honest, going to Disneyland this weekend would not have crossed my mind. Additionally, I have no intention to plan a visit Disney World’s Hollywood Studios on August 29 (and I am a Disney Parks Annual Passholder).
I am a big theme park fan, enjoy Star Wars and I know it would make me a super mom to take my kids during the opening weeks. Still, theme park openings may not be the best times to attend these “hot” attractions.
Here are five reasons to skip visiting Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge until 2020.
The best ride will not open
While everyone takes their picture in front of the Millennium Falcon, the best ride in the Star Wars themed land will be Rise of the Resistance. This ride is not open and doesn’t have an anticipated opening date.

Considered to be one of the best Disney theme park attractions, the Rise of the Resistance ride will be a theme park game changer. From the length to the innovative track experience, this ride will far surpass the Millennium Falcon ride.
Wouldn’t it be better to save your money till you can have the whole experience?
It is reservation only
Anyone remember the old Vacation movie where Chevy Chase and family arrive at Wallyworld only to find out it is closed? If you didn’t make a 4-hour reservation for Galaxy’s Edge, you won’t get to experience it. Those reservations are long gone.
While the reservation system was a smart move by Disney, it leaves out a lot of people. So even if you wanted to go right now, you won’t be able to visit for a little longer.
Crowds lessen the enjoyment
With everyone trying to get their Star Wars moment, it can be difficult to get the full enjoyment. Add to that scenario just a four hour window and it mean that you have to go back. According to Disney, there are many hidden little gems throughout the experience. Plus with all the immersive elements from the character play, do you really want to fight the crowds?
Also, it said that you personally have a character for your time in Galaxy’s Edge. Do you really want to screw up your character forever because you made a poor choice due to all the crowds?

It is more expensive
Did you know that Disney ticket prices vary? Right now, it is more expensive to visit Disneyland. Actually, the ticket park prices do not drop at Disneyland until September. Wouldn’t you want some extra money to spend on that $200 lightsaber or droid?
Learn from other visitors’ mistakes
Some of the most popular travel searches involve Disney and theme park travel hacks. Travelers can benefit from the experiences of others. From finding the special secret spots to knowing which foods to try, knowledge is golden.
In the next couple of weeks, tons of people will be sharing their Star Wars experiences. Sure, it might be hard reading about how they got to experience the wonder and glory first. But, it is to your benefit. Learn from their mistakes. Who wants to spend all that money only to have to visit again because you missed out on the most special part?
Sometimes being first isn’t always the right decision for you. In my case, I will wait till probably 2020 to hit Galaxy’s Edge. After all, August 29 will be crazy busy at Disney World due to both the Galaxy’s Edge opening and the first day of the Epcot Food and Wine Festival. If I dare go to Disney on that day, it will definitely be for the food.
