The DC Universe Swamp Thing premiere is finally here, and it’s bringing us to the swamp and the horrifying heart of the mystery.

Everything is new and green on the DC Universe original, Swamp Thing. With an obvious emphasis on the green. Like every DC Universe subscriber, we’re ready to experience the fresh approach on the Protector of the Green, including how Alec Holland (portrayed by Andy Bean) will eventually take on his swampy form (and the environmentalist duties that go along with it). Along with the new series, the series is overall shrouded in mystery, and the premiere’s synopsis isn’t going to spoil anything either.

Through DC Comics history, Alec Holland’s run as Swamp Thing (portrayed by Derek Mears) has been reimagined at least a couple of different ways. So even beyond the sturdy list of Green Guardians, even Alec’s canon is up to interpretation. As we eagerly wait for the television series unearth the roots of Abby Arcane (portrayed by Crystal Reed), Alec, Swamp Thing, and their deeply dynamic relationships, the first episode will focus on Abby.

Courtesy of Warner Bros. Television, we have some insight on the direction of the series beyond the inevitable captivating horror:

"Abby Arcane (CRYSTAL REED) investigates a deadly virus in the swamps of Louisiana and finds a mysterious creature in the series premiere."

Swamp Thing might be in the title of the series, but it’s also about Abby Arcane and her scientific endeavors, especially in this pilot episode. Abby is a critical character in Swamp Thing lore well beyond her relationship with Alec/Swamp Thing, since she’s a scientist.

And judging by the lethal pathogen in the aforementioned synopsis, Abby’s search to find a cure for an inexplicable spreading virus will likely bring us closer to the almost mythical forces bubbling in the swamp. However, the swamp isn’t the only thing riddled with fright. Our cryptic intuition tells us that Abby has some ghouls haunting her from the past.

Thanks to the first official trailer, we already know to keep the lights on when we’re watching the series. The nightmares are inevitable, and our subconscious will conveniently schedule them every Friday night after this week. But our dreary dreams are just a small price to cough up for the strangely beautiful horrors that await us in the first episode and beyond.
