A trip to Universal Orlando’s Wizarding World of Harry Potter is a must for wizards and muggles alike. Make sure that these magical moments are part of the experience.

For many people, the Wizarding World of Harry Potter is the highlight of their trip to Universal Orlando. With two experiences at both Universal theme parks, seeing everything that the immersive experience offers takes a little planning. Although everyone has her own preferences, these seven magical moments made our must see list.

While rides themselves are a huge draw, they are only part of the Wizarding World. Granted, as more details emerge about Hagrid’s Magical Motorbike Adventure, excitement builds about that attraction and its magical creatures. Billed as Florida’s longest attraction, including seven launches and a free fall drop, the thrill will be as exciting as the show intertwined within it.

Still, not everyone is a ride enthusiast and Universal has found a way to balance that scenario. Even if you never sit in a ride car, there are many magical moments that anyone can and should experience.

Here are our seven must see magical moments at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter.

Wand selection ceremony at Ollivanders

As Harry Potter fans know, picking a wand for a wizard is a special task. The wand ceremony feels as if you have stepped into the scene, just like Harry. Without giving away all the experience, it is definitely worth the wait.

Although some people have speculated on how to get chosen for the experience, there really isn’t a pattern or criteria. If you or someone in your party is chosen, make sure that you have your camera and wallet ready. At the end of the experience, you are whisked through a special door to purchase your special wand.

Whether picked or not, or purchasing a wand or not, this little show is definitely a must see. Stop by Ollivanders in Hogsmeade, located in the Universal Islands of Adventure.

Gringotts Money Exchange

Located steps away from the Escape from Gringotts ride, the Gringotts Money Exchange is a fun diversion. Once you step inside the goblins will be happy to convert your muggle money to Gringotts bank notes.

The goblins do interact some, but they do have helpers with the actual transfer of money. Still, if you aren’t up for the Escape from Gringotts ride, this experience is a wonderful way to see the goblins up close.

Also, those Gringotts bank notes can be used anywhere within the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. Since you are going to buy at least one Butterbeer, why not pay with some non-muggle money.

The Gringotts Money Exchange is located with Diagon Alley at Universal Studios Orlando.

See the Dragon atop Gringotts Bank

Probably one of the most photographed scenes in Diagon Alley is the dragon perched atop Gringotts Bank. Many people wait and wait to see that fire spew from her mouth. Although it isn’t a guarantee, a few hints can help with timing. When the grumbling starts, the fire could be coming soon.

If you are need the front of the ride entrance, fair warning, it is hot. These are real flames, which means weather conditions can prevent the experience. (windy days aren’t good for shooting flames).

Dark Alley

Off to the side in Diagon Alley is the dark alley, which holds all types of engaging experiences. While some people might prefer to stay away from the Dark Arts, this winding experience is worth a walk through at least once.

The winding path has several interactive wand experiences. Also, the tattoo wall is entertaining. While it can be a little difficult to see everything (or let your eyes adjust for a while), it can be a nice place to cool off on a hot day.

Lastly, don’t forget about the interactive skeleton. That experience is a fun diversion. See how creative you can become.

Owl Post

Located just in front of the new entrance to Hagrid’s Magical Motorbike Adventure, the Owl Post allows people to send magical mail or just get a fun souvenir. While many people don’t send real, tangible mail anymore, it could be a nice way to remember your visit.

Consider purchasing a set of Harry Potter post cards and they can be stamped with the Owl Post postmark. Even if you never mail them, it can be a fun souvenir.

Also, this area has some benches that are a great place to rest and get away from the crowds. Sometimes it can be quite crowded in Hogsmeade.

Three Broomsticks

While Butterbeer is flowing all around the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, the Three Broomsticks is the perfect place to sit back, relax and replenish. Although older guests might want to stop at Hog’s Breath for an adult libation, the menu offers some classics. From a fish and chips to a ploughman’s platter, there is a choice for everyone.

For the Butterbeer fans, try the Butterbeer pot of cream. It is like a heavier pudding and a delicious way to end the meal.

Three Broomsticks is located in Hogsmeade at Universal Islands of Adventure.

Light show on Hogwarts Castle

A day at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter wouldn’t be complete without seeing the light show on Hogwarts Castle. Starting at dusk, the light and music show runs continuously till park close.

Occasionally, the theme changes, like at Christmas time. In all the shows, it brings the grandeur and spectacle of Harry Potter to life. From thrills to chills to happiness, all is covered in the short show.

Lastly, since the show runs continuously, you can make sure to capture the fireworks behind the Hogwarts the second time around. That moment makes for a great picture.
