13. Incubus

The primary villains (as in the villains the villainous team went up against) were Enchantress and her brother, Incubus, in Suicide Squad. And while Enchantress was really lacking in story and motivation, it honestly felt like they cared more about developing Incubus in a way that made us understand quickly that this was our bad guy and we wanted to take him out.

We knew going in that he was a god, because his sister is a goddess. But that sometimes feels like the most defining aspect of both of these characters, the fact that they were once worshiped as gods.

On top of being a bit more developed than his sister, even with her having had more screen time than him, Incubus was actually quite powerful, which makes sense considering who and what he is. In fact, he was the kind of powerful that required the might of the entire Suicide Squad working together.

But, it wasn’t just an entire team that was needed to defeat Incubus, it required the ultimate sacrifice as El Diablo gave his life to allow the rest of the squad to make it out alive and take down Enchantress. At the same time, much like Enchantress, we don’t really get a lot of motivation for Incubus. We know he is looking for vengeance after having been betrayed by the humans who were supposed to worship him. And yet, that feels like all we know about this god.

Perhaps if he had been given more screen time, we would have learned more about him, but at the end of the day, he wasn’t nearly as much of an on-screen failure as he potentially could have been.
