Doom Patrol episode 13, “Flex Patrol,” focuses on friendship, grief, and some exercises in recollection.
Our favorite DC Universe dysfunctional family has racked up a lengthy heroic CV in the last several weeks. They’ve saved a bunch of meta-humans and lost the Chief. That last one counts as an achievement, right? Most importantly, they’ve bonded. While Cliff, Vic, Jane, Rita, and Larry have all been gradually working to accept themselves in the broadest sense, this week they’ll help a new recruit. “Flex Patrol” will formally introduce Flex Mentallo, but it will also focus on friendship.
After last week’s exceptionally tragic episode, we’re hoping episode 13 will give us some much-needed reprieve. While we hope the team will have a chance to get some revenge on Mr. Nobody (or at least get a few good punches in), we know they need more time to recoup. Especially for Victor, who is going to need a friend, or five, this week. However, the team is going to be especially busy this week.
Flex Mentallo, one of the meta-humans from the Ant Farm, knows Niles and might have some insight on how and where to find him. The catch? Flex doesn’t remember who he is, let alone who Niles Caulder is. So, the Doom Patrol has to take a side mission to help him remember his past.
According to Warner Bros. Television’s synopsis of “Flex Patrol,” that’s not the only mission the team will embark on this week.
"After escaping the Ant Farm with Flex Mentallo (guest star CHANDLER LONG), the Doom Patrol tries to restore his memory and abilities in order to find the Chief. Meanwhile, Rita confronts her doubts with the help of a stranger and Larry realizes how tied he is to the Negative Spirit."
Like any Doom Patrol episode, this week the team will take on multiple adventures. While Jane and Cliff will help Flex remember his life and his identity, Rita will visit a new character, who we’re hoping will be another critical character on the series. Do you have any thoughts on who that might be? (No cheating.)
As Larry better connects with the Negative Spirit, we’re happy that this week’s theme is self-discovery. After all, superheroes need to regularly establish their self-worth, especially in the face of defeat.
