In this week’s “Chapter Fifty-Six: The Secret of Harvest House” Archie faces Hiram in the ring and the stakes are big. Archie is putting Riverdale on the line, and it looks like the slug-fest is winner take all.

I’m pretty sure the writers will put Archie on top, but cheers to a sweaty, shirtless Hiram.

Last we saw Betty, she was hiding out from not one, but two, serial killers, seeking refuge at The Farm. It might be just as dangerous there, since we’ve recently learned that Edgar Evernever encourages his followers to eat actual people. Edgar is doubling down on Betty, and her resistance is marked as heresy by the other Farmies.

Jughead seems to be on the run from whatever lurks in the woods and possibly has a hook for a hand, but my hopes are high for a successful resolution to his peril. Jughead mostly always comes out on top. This is where Hotdog would really come in handy.

Veronica is still caught in a loyalty tug-of-war between her erstwhile boyfriend and her comically villainous dad. She barks, “You can’t win this” to Hiram, presumably about the impending boxing match, but we all know he totally could. Hiram isn’t any ol’ slouch, and my money is on a cheating storyline which will offer the expected thrust to his hero narrative (however anemic it’s become).

With only two more episodes to go, Riverdale is going to have to do better than “Prom Night” to wrap this season up. Here’s to unmasking the Gargoyle King, finally dispensing with the Black Hood, sending Edgar Evernever back to whatever planet from which he came, and Dark Betty finally getting the screentime she deserves.
