The latest member of the royal family, after making his first public appearance, now has a name from his parents, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
Everyone, say hello to Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor! (That’s the royal baby we’ve been talking about.)
He was born two days ago, but at that time, no name was given. Only earlier today did he make his first public appearance in the arms of his father, Prince Harry, with his mother, Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex right there as well.
The name announcement came from Sussex Royal, the couple’s official Instagram account, and was accompanied by a photo showing Queen Elizabeth II meeting her newest great-grandson:
Look at the expression on Prince Harry’s face! Throughout the entire process, he’s just seemed so awed and amazed by parenthood, and the Duchess of Sussex looks the same here in the photo.
Rumors had been flying that there would be a more traditional name like James or Alexander, only for Express to pick up a rumor that an “unusual” name would be picked. Granted, Archie is traditionally a nickname for Archibald, so it has a nod to some older, more staid names. And Harrison is quite literally “Henry’s son,” continuing the tradition of repeating names throughout the royal family without literally naming the baby after someone in the family. It also contrasts nicely to the names of Prince William and Kate Middleton’s children while still sounding right with them, as Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis now have a little cousin.
Finally, young Archie is now seventh in line to the throne, after his grandfather, Prince Charles; his uncle, Prince William; his cousins, mentioned above; and his father, Prince Harry. At this time, his title is unknown, but it’s possible we’ll hear more about it in the coming days.
Congratulations to the couple!
