The 100 season 6 episode 2: Biggest takeaways from the teaser
The season six premiere of The 100 introduced fans to the New World, but the second episode looks like it’ll deal with some baggage from the old one.
The sixth season of The 100 premiered this week, and the first episode set fans up for a dark and challenging season for our favorite characters. Even though the New World promises a new start for Clarke and her friends, they’re carrying plenty of baggage from the old world with them—and those past conflicts and resentments are already beginning to surface, even as the exploratory team sets off for the new planet.
But even if “Sanctum” has a few moments of the characters facing their demons—just as the tagline for this season suggests they will—it mostly begins introducing the new planet, which viewers know from the season six trailers is called Sanctum.
The promo for next week’s episode, however, hints that we’ll be taking a step backward. There’s undeniably conflict in the teaser, most of it stemming from the show’s previous season. But the title of the second episode, “Red Sun Rising,” also suggests that we’ll be learning more about the eclipse-induced psychosis we got a glimpse of at the end of the premiere.

Here are three takeaways from the promo for “Red Sun Rising.”
Clarke is still dealing with what she’s done in the past.
One thing the sixth season premiere of The 100 wasn’t short on was characters ragging on Clarke for her past mistakes. Despite how many times Clarke has saved her friends, most of them feel betrayed by her behavior from last season, and they aren’t afraid to tell her so. In fact, she’s essentially become the outsider and scapegoat of the group—but they all still turn to her when they need a leader.
And that seems to be happening again in the promo. We get a shot of Clarke in the restraints we saw scattered throughout the abandoned buildings of the New World last episode, and in the clip, she says, “When I’m in charge, people die.” Her words are bitter, but it’s hard to tell whether she’s angry at herself or at the others. We can assume they’re asking her to take control again, even though they’ve made it clear how much they detest her decision-making. She seems reluctant to this time, though.
As far as the restraints go, it seems likely that all the characters will chain themselves to the walls—at least until the eclipse passes. They’ve already seen what eclipse-induced psychosis can do to people, and it doesn’t bode well for any of them. But before we get to the restraints part…
We’re going to get a glimpse at the characters during psychosis.
Many of the clips show the exploratory team fighting with one another in the eerie lighting of the eclipse, meaning that the effects of the psychosis are probably surfacing in all of them, just as they did with Emori at the end of “Sanctum.” All of them appear to be in states of confusion and pain, and we know from the trailers that they’re likely to address some of their issues with one another while in this state of mind—and that’s probably not advisable.
Skaikru is awake, and Octavia is in trouble.
During the premiere, Abby tells Niylah to wake all of Skaikru except for Octavia. And, true to character, Niylah only wakes Octavia. It’s clear that Wonkru still has one dedicated follower, even after Blodreina’s failures last season.
But judging by the promo, Abby still wakes the majority of Skaikru—and the rest of them are not pleased to see their former queen. The teaser shows Octavia being punched directly into a metal railing (ouch), and it also ends with someone holding a knife to her throat. “The queen is dead,” the same person says right before the trailer cuts off.
This is worrisome for Octavia fans, some of whom believe the show will kill off her character this season. However, it’s probably more likely that whoever stole the exploratory team’s ship will come knocking just in time to distract Skaikru from Octavia. (We hope so, anyway.)
The 100 airs on Tuesdays at 9 p.m. on The CW.
