The latest Twilight Zone episode, “Six Degrees of Freedom,” is a host for horror and scientific odes.
We’re not sure if we’d said this before, but it’s nice having a new Twilight Zone episode to look forward to each week. The new Twilight Zone revival might not be a perfect mold of the original, but it gives us the same nostalgic and horrifying scenes and commentary. Either way, we’re glad it isn’t because it gives us new episodes and concepts to admire in the fandom. Now, The Twilight Zone “Six Degrees of Freedom,” sets us out in space for a full-fledged sci-fi affair.
Space, lost voyages, and science fictions all play on each other. They aren’t mutually inclusive of one another, but there are a lot of sci-fi productions set in space. The fact that we still haven’t gotten tired of the intergalactic setting means that is an evergreen theme that’s working for the genre.
Deviating from a space mission is scary enough, but straying from a mission in space while you’re also visited by a parallel dimension is terrifying. The trailer for this week’s episode doesn’t give us any context into the theme or any specific conflict for the space expedition. However, the stressed scoring gives us the right apprehension to prepare for the inevitable scares this week.
With a tone seemingly similar to a Lost in Space vibe, a lot can go wrong for the crew in “Six Degrees of Freedom.” It’s a shame, too, because it’s someone’s birthday aboard the ship. We still haven’t figured out the birthday person who will have a late RSVP to the party (via an intergalactic guest), but it isn’t out of the expansive realm of possibilities. After all, it is The Twilight Zone, right?
At the time of writing this article, there is no CBS All Access synopsis for Twilight Zone episode 6, “Six Degrees of Freedom.” It’s already creepily convenient that the episodic title would pay homage to the numerical episode. However, the ambiguity surrounding episode 6 builds the suspense even before we have the chance to watch it.
