Empire season 5 episode 17 live stream: Watch online

Tonight’s episode of Empire will either pull on our heartstrings or let us know the Lyons were just pulling our legs. Which will it be?

If you saw the final minutes of last week’s episode of Empire, you know that the (second) eldest Lyon is contemplating a huge decision that will change his and his family’s lives forever.

After learning that the chemotherapy used to treat his lymphoma irreparably destroyed his heart muscle, Andre decides to take his life and its ending into his own hands, saying: “I want to die on my terms.”

Notably, Andre’s plan to end his life is absent from SpoilerTV‘s press release: “Cookie gets picked up by AUSA Conway (guest star Alicia Coopola), while Lucious is visited by his past. Becky, Hakeem and Andre devise a plan to save Empire by putting on a show with special guests Sevyn Streeter and Ty Dolla $ign. Meanwhile, Andre helps Empire by getting help from the last person the Lyons expect and Cookie may never forgive Lucious for what he’s done.”

As this video shows, Andre’s had a pretty tragic life and every time things seem to be getting better, they’re snatched away. If Andre were to end his life it would be a truly heartbreaking end to his story but I’m still hoping this is a diversion the writers created so viewers are truly surprised by whoever is in that coffin at the end of the season.

In lighter news, I’m curious to see how Ty Dolla $ign and Sevyn Streeter bring the heat to the lukewarm Trust tour. I also would like to know who Lucious comes face to face with from his past, since he already found out he has a son. What could possibly be next?

A running theme this season has been the idea that our actions and fate always catch up with us, no matter how we try to escape them. Lucious and the Lyons have spent the last five years cheating death, escaping prison and magically having performances go without a hitch despite everything under the sun going wrong. Could their luck finally be running out?
