Game of Thrones season 8: Questions answered by “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms”
Now that “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” has aired, it’s time to discuss what Game of Thrones addressed in the episode for fans.
Game of Thrones always leaves mysteries for next week. That’s the nature of episodic television, and fans will probably still be asking questions after the finale airs in four weeks. However, a show can’t just keep asking questions and never providing any answers.
“A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” focused heavily on relationships between the surviving characters as they wait for the dead to arrive.
Consequently, it’s time to talk about what answers we got about those relationships.
Is Daenerys really that mad at Tyrion?
Does threatening to basically fire your Hand count as being mad at someone? That seems like being mad at someone to this writer. Sure, other characters stand up for Tyrion’s general work as Hand of the Queen, but we know that Daenerys does what Daenerys wants to do at the end of the day. Maybe if Jon says something, she’ll keep him on. But with next week’s episode all about the battle, that might have to wait until episode 4.
That also assumes that everyone involved in this little conflict actually survives, which is not a given at all.
What is the status of Brienne, Jaime, and Tormund?
As always: It’s complicated.
Sure, this writer joked that we needed to ignore Tormund’s cringe-worthy attempts at flirting, but here’s the thing: he’s still giving it his all, down to literally placing his chair so that it formed a triangle with Jaime’s and Brienne’s seats. Meanwhile, Jaime actually makes Brienne cry happy tears as he makes her a true knight.
Of course, it’s time to make a disclaimer. Brienne does not need a romantic relationship to make her a good character. She can continue having tension with Jaime and tension of a different kind with Tormund, and that’s okay.
If we really had to view this as a competition, though, Jaime is probably in the lead right now.
What’s the status of Bran and Jaime?
Bran being able to quote Jaime’s “The things I do for love” gave Nikolaj Coster-Waldau the opportunity to make another fantastic expression that should be made into a GIF if it hasn’t already.
Essentially, though, they’re a lot better than they could be, since Bran has a very different perspective on things now. Everything, essentially, is going as it was always meant to, as far as he’s concerned.
That still doesn’t stop him from creeping Jaime out, though, for fantastic comedy moments that rival anything that comes out of Tormund’s mouth.
