10 can’t-miss crime documentaries you can watch on Netflix right now
Amanda Knox
Amanda Knox is a documentary-style crime film that was released on Netflix in 2016, yet it’s still getting views every single day — Even after being premiered at the Toronto Film Festival earlier that year in September of 2016.
The documentary focuses on the story of the murder of Meredith Kercher. Amanda Knox, where the film gets its title, was convicted twice for the murder. But later, she was acquitted of all charges in 2007. The murder, however, is not the main focus, but rather Knox’s story takes the mainstage of the film. The documentary is done incorporating interviews in which Knox herself, along with her ex-boyfriend and the prosecutor of the case, were interrogated about the happenings, the timeline, and the story of the crime.
Knox, who has now been found innocent, discusses the terror of being wrongfully committed and to have had wasted four years of her life in the Italian prison system. This story definitely makes you think about the workings of the legal systems in and out of our country. It also pulls at the heartstrings.
If you are looking for a documentary that’s a little different in tone and composition and has a semi-happy ending, then this is the one for you.
While crime documentaries can be entertaining, after watching these, we recommend you go for something a little more lighthearted to ease up the mood like Netflix’s Queer Eye or Tidying Up with Marie Kondo. You’ll thank us later.
