Day 5

Imperial Guard and Emperor Palpatine, above

This Imperial Guard is making yet another reference to the world of Star Wars games, as he’s taking nods from Star Wars: The Old Republic. Of course, the sight of smoke billowing through the air in McCormick Place drew my attention for a photo — and several others as well. The Emperor, meanwhile, has just the right menacing look on his face as he beckons through that smoke for you to join the Dark Side in any era.

Porg

Yes, that is a giant porg. The requested “best pose” was this, and it is, as you may expect, particularly porg-like. The netting representing the mouth is also where this cosplayer could see and speak through, and they were happy to take pictures with other attendees of the Celebration both before and after we met. (Perhaps unsurprisingly, quite a few kids wanted a picture.)

Padmé Amidala

Who needs an Anakin to have a good time? Not this Padmé cosplayer, who, despite wearing the costume from Attack of the Clones where they basically have a date, seemed to be all on her own at the Star Wars Resistance panel. The ribbons flowed beautifully while she was walking in, and that as well as the commitment to detail (the buns in nets! the bustier! the shawl!) meant that I had to take a photo.

Jedi Assassin

Who says Jedi wouldn’t be in the world of Assassin’s Creed?

Okay, maybe a lot of people.

That didn’t stop this gentleman from combining the two fandoms for one outfit that looked completely fantastic even as Star Wars Celebration Chicago came to a close. Check out the mini lightsaber serving as his wrist blade! The detailed buttons! The creativity alone was enough to get a picture; the pose was even better.

(Yes, I took this photo in the street. The officers directing traffic had stopped us. Maybe don’t follow my example.)
