RuPaul’s Drag Race season 11 episode 8 live stream: Watch online
RuPaul’s Drag Race is taking a two-hour tour of all the oceanic jokes it can make for this year’s iteration of the Snatch Game.
Doesn’t this feel late for the Snatch Game in a modern season of RuPaul’s Drag Race? On the last season of RPDR, it was the fifth episode, and RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars always breaks it out very early for maximum effect.
However, this year, we’re in the eighth episode and just getting to it, with “Snatch Game at Sea” planning to throw the queens for a loop by perhaps making them change which impersonation they’re doing in order to fit the theme.
VH1’s synopsis reveals just why our Snatch Game this year is adrift:
"The queens compete in a nautical-themed version of the legendary Snatch Game. Veep co-stars Tony Hale and Clea DuVall guest judge. Drag queen Jinkx Monsoon makes a guest appearance."
After Alyssa Edwards’ showing up last week, it’s good that RPDR is happy to bring in queens who have a talent and reputation for slaying certain challenges. Jinkx’s Little Edie is still one of the top impersonations ever on Snatch Game, and her advice might be enough to push someone like last week’s winner, Plastique, over the top.
Seriously, just give it a rewatch:
It’s all about leaning into a few things, and, more importantly, making it funny. A lot of queens have fallen into the trap of looking an awful lot like their chosen celebrities without being able to land a joke or two. Even in this clip, you can see Alyssa Edwards’ Katy Perry (blue hair and all) not pick up on RuPaul’s joke about “I Kissed a Girl.” Get a few laughs, and you should be fine. Pick up and steal some screentime for yourself beyond what you’re tossed, and you’re in line for the top.
