Sansa will see a wight version of her mother, Catelyn

Some fans are already guessing that when the Night King and his army reach Winterfell, he’ll reanimate the dead Starks in the crypt, meaning we could see wight versions of fan favorites like Ned wandering around again. Based on trailer footage, which depicts Arya running from something in terror, lots of folks are guessing that she’s the Stark who’ll come face to face with her dead ancestors. And that’s certainly possible. (And fairly terrifying.)

But it’s Sansa who left her relationship with her mother in a less-than-great place, and who realizes how wrong she was in many of the things she said to Catelyn, and how much she misses her. It’s not an accident that Sansa’s Winterfell wardrobe looks exactly like her mother’s, complete with the same Northern hairstyle — or that she took over her mother’s bedroom in the castle.

Therefore, Sansa facing down a reanimated version of Catelyn is likely to be much more emotionally harrowing than if it were, say, Jon or Arya. Jon never really got along with Catelyn and Arya was always her father’s favorite. But Sansa… well, Sansa and her mother may have fought, but Sansa has also basically grown up into Catelyn. They’re the same, in so many ways.

And, not for nothing, but the revelation of some form of undead Catelyn would allow the show to do at least some vague version of the Lady Stoneheart storyline that Game of Thrones fans have been anticipating for years.
