The latest look at Avengers: Endgame contextualizes a couple key moments from all the previous teasers, but with the added bonus of more Carol Danvers.
Even if Avengers: Endgame is still lying to us in its promotional materials, and it probably is, the latest teaser from the movie will probably warm the hearts of the Carol Corps. Thanks to Good Morning America, we now have what looks like part of a full scene, one that’s been previously described.
Should you still be mildly cranky that the promotions have been light on Captain Marvel, worry not. This clip is all about her proposal in fighting Thanos (and offering an explainer as to why she hasn’t showed up beforehand).
Take a look, which you can see toward the end of this clip:
Frankly, everyone being cranky at Carol makes no sense when you look at her reasoning. As she points out, the universe is large. Earth has, at any given time, some combination of a billionaire tech genius, a super-soldier, a not-not deity, a master assassin, a king with superpowers and the best suit game in the business (we miss you, T’Challa), and so on protecting it.
Her plan is also particularly simple. If they find the Infinity Stones, they can undo everything. Presumably, this is not the plan that ends up working, or there are some complications that put time travel into the mix, since many theories (and set photos) hint that that’s also involved in this three-hour behemoth.
We also finally know who reassures Carol that she’s in a room of fellow heroes: War Machine. It’s an interesting choice, but without Tony Stark there to provide the cutting remark, Rhodey is an acceptable substitute. No one else in the room that we can see is the kind of character who would say that to someone.
Also, pay close attention to Carol’s makeup in this clip, as compared to the much-maligned initial look we got at her. The lipstick is way toned down; she still looks like she’s wearing makeup, but it’s at least less obvious. Here’s hoping that the final film continues to make changes to make sure that Carol looks more like herself.
Avengers: Endgame arrives April 26.
