Deborah Harkness’ best-selling All Souls trilogy comes to life on AMC tonight with the premiere of A Discovery of Witches. The series promises to be a bold, romantic thriller that details the secret underworld of witches, vampires and daemons.

The series will follow historian Diana Bishop, who is also a witch yet denies this heritage. That is until she unexpectedly uncovers an ancient manuscript from Oxford’s Bodleian library, and it contains magical properties. The book may very well help her understand her witch background, but it’ll also put her right in the middle of a dangerous mystery.

As for the romantic part of this series, Diana also meets a charming vampire named Matthew Clairmont. Matthew is also interested in the book, as well as solving the threat of extinction for all magical beings. However, as these two go on this journey together, their budding relationship threatens tradition.
