Thor may die but might live to see another day after Avengers: Endgame

Thor might die in the final battle of Avengers: Endgame, but these Asgardians have this tendency not to stay dead in the Marvel world.

As posters and trailers keep coming out leading to a frenzy of fan speculation, we are speculating which of the Avengers may perish or survive the final battle against Thanos in Avengers: Endgame. Here is my own frenzied speculation about everyone’s favorite Norse deity turned superhero: Thor.

Where did we leave Thor in Infinity War?

In Infinity War, we see him in shock after Thanos disappears on him. Thor successfully injures him him, but it is not enough to stop the Mad Titan from snapping his fingers. In the trailer, we do see his shocked visage again, trying to take in the immensity of Thanos’ heinous deeds: “I saw all these people die.” We do get a happier Thor when he meets Captain Marvel at the end of the trailer, when she merely smiles at him after he summons his axe.

Will Thor survive in Endgame?

Yes and no. He may die in the process of defeating Thanos, saying something pithy before he jumps into the fray. However, I don’t think he’ll stay dead. He’s a god, after all. Look at Loki. How many times has Loki died throughout the movies (and even the comic books)? The start of Ragnarok has Thor uncovering his presumably dead brother masquerading as their father, Odin. In Infinity War, we have this amazing conversation with Rocket:

"Rocket: Okay, time to be the captain. So dead brother, huh? Yeah, that can be annoying.Thor: Well, he’s been dead before. But this time, I think it really might be true."

I don’t believe that Loki is truly dead and gone. Neither does Chelsea Jackson in her analysis of the movie posters. He’s the God of Mischief, after all. It wouldn’t be right for him to disappear forever; there’s too much trouble to cause on Earth and elsewhere. I don’t think Thor will stay dead either. It’s possible he might come back as another being, maybe a female Thor as we’ve seen in some of the comic books. Someone has to rebuild Asgard, after all.

I hope we’ll get some more BFF antics with Captain Marvel and Thor as well as Rocket and Thor. (Maybe all three?) And we also want to see also more brotherly antics between Thor and Loki. Or just more mischief with Loki and Thor having to shut him down.
