Game of Thrones season 8: Watch Arya and Jon meet up and Daenerys taking a trip

Game of Thrones season 8 has dropped two new teasers over the weekend. Here’s what you missed in the short clips, and what it might portend for the end.

Game of Thrones season 8 has all kinds of material out in the world now, from posters to how long the episodes will run to, of course, a trailer. However, the latest release of new footage is a bit more subtle: it seems to be available for those who have access to HBO Go on Amazon, at minimum.

Thankfully, the fans of r/freefolk are on the case, posting high-quality videos of both teasers. We’ll start with the first one.

Your attention may be drawn to the fact that it’s Tyrion who gets to speak for once in a teaser, after being surprisingly silent for much of the new footage. However, fans have looked more closely at that clip of Daenerys and Jon together, and have come to the conclusion that she’s at Dragonstone.

With all the promos focusing on the arrival at Winterfell, why would HBO sneak this shot in? The easy theory is that it’s a tease of where Daenerys and Jon will go next. Dragonstone, after all, is an island, easily defensible and the kind of stronghold that makes for an excellent base after getting walloped at Winterfell. Notably, Daenerys looks to just be staring into the fire — something she might do after a huge defeat.

Earlier today, the second teaser also surfaced. Aside from the most obvious reveal, which involves Jon and Arya meeting again after being apart for seven seasons, fans have noticed one more important thing. The shot of Jon blowing the candle out is set in the crypts of Winterfell; brightening the teaser reveals Ned Stark’s statue in the background.

Whether or not this is a post-parentage reveal or not is unclear at this time, but there’s still quite a lot of symbolism to be had in Jon blowing one of Ned’s candles out. This is more than just a mystery of who killed the Hand of the King. This is now a fight for the very survival of the continent. Moreover, darkness is falling, and Jon might even be considering how he might be buried down there sooner rather than later.

Game of Thrones returns April 14.
