Supergirl season 4 episode 17 live stream: Watch online

Supergirl faces off against her counterpart as Lex unveils his super-villain plan. Find all the details on how to watch this week’s episode below.

In the past, Supergirl has struggled to get a handle on villains. Sure, season 1’s Maxwell Lord was fun, and Astra had her moments, but both of them ultimately came second to Non, who was so bland we don’t even remember what his scheme was. The next two seasons seemed to mistake powerful villains for compelling villains, posing end-of-the-world scenarios without bothering to create a world worth saving.

Color us pleasantly surprised, then, that season 4 has provided not just one but two terrific episodes centered on villains. “Man of Steel” remains the highlight for its degree of difficulty (it had to frame Ben Lockwood as a protagonist of his story without appearing to endorse him) as well as its ability to throw the entire show in a new light. But last week’s “The House of L” was a stunner in its own way, adding nuance to Jon Cryer’s Lex Luthor while cementing him as a formidable threat.

Plus, any episode that lets Melissa Benoist show off her range – both comedic and dramatic – is a commendable one in our book.

This week’s episode, titled “All About Eve,” returns the heroes to center stage. Read the official synopsis below:

"SUPERGIRL FACES HER BIGGEST CHALLENGE YET — Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) must deal with the destructive aftermath of Lex’s (guest star Jon Cryer) nefarious plans. Shocked at what Lex has created, Supergirl faces her biggest challenge yet."

Should we expect a showdown between Supergirl and Red Daughter? With five episodes left in the season after tonight, it seems early for a moment that the show has been building up to for so long. But Supergirl has been doing a fine job of continuing to escalate the stakes and tension, so no doubt there’ll be more twists and turns. We wouldn’t be surprised if Kara manages to turn her doppelgänger to her side.

The title also suggests that Lena’s two-timing assistant Eve Teschmacher will play a major role in the episode. Suffice to say, her chances of switching sides are much lower.

Ben Bray directs from a story by Gabriel Llanas and teleplay by Katie Rose Rogers and Brooke Pohl.
