PlayStation announced their PlayStation Plus offerings for the month of April. We have a breakdown of the two games this month.
It’s always a good day when the PlayStation Plus offerings are announced for the upcoming month.
That being said, keep in mind that Sony stopped offering PS Vita and PS3 games as of the end of February, so we only have two games available for free. Below are the offerings to PS Plus members for April 2019:
- Conan Exiles
- The Surge
Honestly, these don’t seem like solid offerings, not compared to the March offerings of The Witness and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered. So… should you download these and try them out? Let’s break it down!
Conan Exiles is an open-world survival game that released publicly in May 2018 (it was an early access title in January 2017). It’s a bit of a bland game compared to other open-world survival games, but it still made it to the top of Steam’s best seller list when it premiered.
It was most notably known for players being able to create and play as nude avatars, and own slaves … which unfortunately includes sexual exploitation of said slaves. Of course, that is an optional part of the game.
One of the most rewarding things about Conan Exiles is its melee combat. It feels pretty rewarding and everything flows so smoothly; you aren’t jarred out of the playing experience by clunky button-pushing or lag time.
The Surge is an action RPG that came out in May 2017. It was a spiritual successor to Deck13 Interactive’s Lords of the Fallen (very Dark Souls-esque). In that same vein, it’s just as infuriating and challenging. The atmosphere of this game nails downright creepiness. It’s a wonderful mix of sci-fi and horror that you might not expect with uncertainty everywhere.
You will die a lot. So if you’re not a fan of repeating yourself or any of the Dark Souls games, you may not want to try this one. But one of the best parts of the game are the finishing moves during combat. They are so completely over the top that they’re hilarious. It makes the dying and dying again feel a little more worth it once you beat a particular battle.
It’s definitely worth it to download both of these games and try them out. But if you’re not currently a PS Plus member, I would maybe wait to consider buying a subscription.
Both games are available for free to PlayStation Plus members starting April 2.
