Empire season 5 episode 12 live stream: Watch online

Treasure and Tiana fight for center stage, Lucious and Damon fight over Cookie and Andre fights for his life on the latest episode of Empire.

The events of the newest episode of Empire, titled “Shift and Save Yourself,” continue the story arcs established in the season premiere and episode 11.

Here’s the synopsis from Spoiler TV:

"Cookie is offered a career game-changer that would put her future in the family business in jeopardy. Jamal works diligently to try to make Tiana and Treasure’s (guest star Katlynn Simone) track a success, as Lucious, Cookie and Giselle deliberate future plans for Hakeem and the rest of the artists at Empire. Meanwhile, the feds pressure Thirsty, due to his affiliation with Lucious and Damon Cross (guest star Wood Harris), and Andre receives startling news."

Given that showrunner Brett Mahoney ruled out Cookie as the person in the casket, Andre dying seems even more likely given that his illness appears to be serious. But like I said, we won’t know until the end of this season so I’ll reserve judgment.

Despite the sad turn his life is about to take, it is nice to see Andre with a woman who wants to stick by him–I don’t think he’s had anyone like that since Rhonda. Remember, Nessa’s career benefited from her relationship with Andre and Officer Pam –well– wasn’t real. It’ll be interesting to see how Terri adjusts to Andre’s health and most likely learns about the more sinister parts of his life.

I actually found myself more interested in the Tiana/Treasure feud than I thought after last night. Let’s just get this out of the way: the storyline is an obvious riff on Cardi B and Nicki Minaj’s well-publicized rivalry. But the role reversal the show took, where Tiana is the established star having to prove her relevance after becoming a mother, and Treasure is the new face, makes this a bit more appealing.

Through the last season, motherhood challenged Tiana both personally and professionally as we saw her fighting to be taken seriously by pretty much everyone around her.  Now the question is whether she’ll come back again and beat the new kid on the block or lose her title as Empire’s Princess to Treasure.

And then there’s Cookie….

It goes without saying that Damon Cross is slimy as all get out, and between him and Lucious, Cookie’s options aren’t super attractive right about now. But according to the latest video preview, Damon is going to become “obsessed” with Cookie. If his drive to get her is anything close to Lucious’ drive to keep her, the two men’s fight for Cookie’s love could get ugly–and no amount of sharp suits or fierce dresses from Cookie will make it any prettier.
