Project Runway season 17 returns to its original home, Bravo. Will this new take on the classic fashion competition captivate fashionistas?

The totally revamped Project Runway season 17  is looking to bring some excitement to the fashion runway. With a new host and mentor, this season hopefully not be out with the fans. Are you ready for this new version of Project Runway?

According to Bravo, the Project Runway season 17 episode 1 synopsis states:

"Sixteen talented designers from all walks of life arrive in New York City for the ultimate fashion competition. Nerves are high as the designers start-off by showcasing their best looks for industry influencers and the Project Runway host and judges Karlie Kloss, Nina Garcia, Brandon Maxwell and Elaine Welteroth. Afterwards, the contestants meet this season’s mentor, CFDA and celebrity fashion designer, Christian Siriano. The designers receive their first challenge, to create a look inspired by some of the biggest names in fashion but with a shocking and unexpected twist!"

Looking at this new Project Runway season, the concept is similar yet different. While some judges are different, the biggest change is adding Christian Siriano as mentor. Tim Gunn always had a fatherly vibe in the workroom. While Christian has been in these designers’ shoes, the tone is completely different. Will the designers heed his advice or stick to their design aesthetic?

For this first episode, the initial runway sets the tone for the season. All of these designers are very different and their design viewpoint is clear. While these ideas might work in their own workroom, the designers might need to adapt to the Project Runway challenges. The gender neutral, fashion-eclectic or architectural designs might not work in every Project Runway episode.

Since Project Runway has been around for such a long time, the designers should know the concept of the show. The elaborate designs that took weeks or months to create won’t work in these challenges. The key to winning Project Runway is adaptability. The designers who can define that adjective in their own vision should go far.

Lastly, it will be interesting to see if this Project Runway season will model inclusive. With one designer specializing in full-figure designs, it would be nice to see all sizes of models represented again. That aspect makes the show more realistic. Not everyone who loves fashion is a size 0.
