The partnership between Team Arrow and the SCPD goes about as well as you’d expect. Here is what you need to know to watch tonight’s episode.

On the whole, last week’s episode of Arrow was rather uneventful. Oliver continued to inch his way toward a meaningful relationship with his half-sister. Dante continued to elude Diggle and Lyla, and the Ghost Initiative was blown, succeeding only in getting one of its leaders fired and one of its participants killed.

However, with only eight episodes left in the season and 18 episodes left in the show, things are about to pick up. The final moments of “Brothers & Sisters” offered a twist that’s both intriguing and worrying: Emiko is working with Dante. What is Dante really up to? And was bonding with Oliver always part of Emiko’s plan? Regardless of her initial intentions, her budding relationship with her brother certainly seems genuine now.

Judging by the official synopsis for this week’s episode, titled “Training Day,” Emiko will take a back seat for now. You can read the full description below, courtesy of The CW:

"TEAM ARROW ATTEMPTS TO WORK WITH SCPD — Team Arrow attempts to work with the Star City Police Department but much to Oliver’s (Stephen Amell) frustration, things don’t go as planned. Meanwhile, Dinah (Juliana Harkavy) gets some life-changing news."

That’s as vague a description as Arrow has ever provided. So far, nothing in Oliver’s work with the SCPD has really gone according to plan.

The trailer for “Training Day” suggests that this time, the conflict will involve the use of violence in law enforcement. Given the show’s sketchy history of addressing racial issues, we’re inclined to be wary of a police brutality episode. Hopefully, it will follow the lead of season 5’s “Spectre of the Gun” and focus on the characters instead of trying to make a political statement.

It’s Dinah’s plot that piques our interest. The Black Canary hasn’t gotten a whole lot to do this season, serving a similar role to Quentin’s in season 1. As the face of the police department, she has been tasked with mostly foiling Oliver and Rene’s vigilante missions. Hopefully, whatever this life-changing news is will give her a more emotionally fulfilling arc.

Ruba Nadda directs from a script by Emilio Ortega Aldrich and Rebecca Rosenberg.
