15 essential Avengers: Endgame theories to know before the premiere

Tony Stark will not return

It’s hard to think about Tony Stark not surviving. Nonetheless, it’s still a theory worth mentioning, because it’s pretty plausible. Steve Rogers isn’t the only self-sacrificing hero who could join other permanently deceased characters, and Tony could be one of the characters to perish in an attempt to save half the universe.

Behind his arrogant and selfish facade, Tony Stark deeply cares about his friends, family, and people he hasn’t even met. He willingly flew through a portal with no promise of return in the first Avengers film. He built an entire home and base to bring the Avengers closer together. He followed Doctor Strange in Infinity War — you know the wizard he had only met minutes beforehand. We could go on, but we’ll spare you from our Iron-Man appreciation monologue for the time being.

Tony is obsessed with selflessness. Though his fake-selfishness sometimes conceals it, his passion to help others and humanity, in general, is his biggest weakness. Ultimately, he could commit his last selfless act in Avengers: Endgame. It will probably save at least a few heroes’ lives and indirectly (or directly) help them revive half the universe, but we’ll still miss the original man under the iron suit.

While the Russo brothers have refuted some of these theories, such as popular Soul Stone theories, we can assume some of their comments could be ways to misdirect fans. After all, the Russos did say that the title of Avengers 4 was never spoken in Avengers: Infinity War. And we all remember Doctor Strange utter “endgame” in Infinity War. Therefore, we consider any supposedly debunked fan theories fair game.
