According to Lifetime, the synopsis for this week’s Project Runway All Stars episode states “(t)he All Stars battle extreme weather on and off the runway for resort wear that transforms from one climate into another; Cynthia Erivo and Reem Acra guest judge.”

Anyone who travels understands that even the best laid plans can change in the drop of a hat. Sometimes that perfect beach vacation turns into a rainy, dreary cold getaway. Since it is impossible to pack everything from your closet, outfits need to fit a variety of purposes. This challenge appeals to that idea.

While the extreme weather conditions and transformative properties will make for an exciting runway, the application needs to be practical. Looking back at a previous episode, the innovative avant-garde designs weren’t applicable in many cases. Sure, a sensory deprivation outfit is cool, but how many people are willing to go that far for fashion?

Given this runway challenge, the designers need to think beyond the transformation aspect and focus on taste level. No one wants to wear a Golden Girls inspired caftan at the resort. The same can be said of bold colors or vibrant prints.

Of course, resort wear noticeably shows that people aren’t in the typical 9 to 5, but it needs to be sophisticated. If you can afford to vacation at a resort, you want to look good lounging on the chaise. No one will care if you outfit transforms when the starting point is ugly.
